Inspirational Women - Joanne Griffin, founder of Arnold and Bird
Give us one or two things you have learnt growing up as a woman?
For me, I learnt to be kind to everyone as you don't know what others are going through or what journey they're on. So being friendly and listening to others is really important to make them feel acknowledged in the way you'd like to be as well.
Where did you find the courage, confidence and motivation to start your own business?
It took many years as it's something I've always wanted to do! I think my mindset had to shift first. It was all about breaking down that internal voice that says you can't do it. It's still there but it doesn't have quite the same power anymore.
What is the key to innovations in your line of work?
I love to share trends and innovations in my work, especially as I work with retail brands and designers. Highlighting trends and how other businesses can apply them is a key part of my content and work I do with others. And I've found that building a community and engaging with them is key as you need to know who you're talking to. Community over competition wins every time!
What are the daily challenges you face as a female entrepreneur?
Trying to do all the things at once! I have so many ideas and plans that often leads to them feeling overwhelming. And if you do work for yourself you don't stop enough to celebrate your wins. I'm trying to break down bigger goals into smaller chunks to make everything more manageable. And also be realistic about what I can often put too much on my to-do list each day.
What are your goals for 2019?
I plan to do more events - so workshops and social meet-ups for creatives locally here in Milton Keynes and London. I'm also working on a '2019/2020 trend' e-book and also an 'Introduction to product development' e-book. Plus some graphic design templates for creative businesses.
